  3. Overview:
  4.  
  5. PageGate is a sophisticated wireless messaging (paging) application.
  6. The heart of the application is a high throughput paging engine that
  7. has the ability to support multiple dialers (modems) and direct cable
  8. connections to paging terminals.  PageGate supports several front-end
  9. interfaces (gateways) that can be used alone or in conjunction with
  10. each other. This allows PageGate to receive messages from many sources,
  11. and deliver the messages to wireless messaging devices (including
  12. alphanumeric pagers, numeric pagers, mobile phones, PIMs, etc.)   The
  13. front-end interfaces include: NotePager Net, a GUI windows client
  14. which enables an entire network to send messages from its Windows
  15. based workstations, a Commandline/Ascii interface which enables many
  16. 'off the shelf' and custom applications to send messages to PageGate,
  17. an Email gateway interface which enables email messages to be accepted
  18. by PageGate, a CGI web server interface which allows messages to be
  19. sent directly from web pages, and a TTY/TDD interface which enables
  20. PageGate to receive messages from TTY/TDD devices.  PageGate's
  21. modularity (PageGate's modules can be run on several separate
  22. machines), scalability (direct cable connection and support for
  23. multiple dialers), multiple front-end interfaces, and high-end
  24. features (group paging, scheduled pages, repeating pages, on-call
  25. groups, and ad-hoc paging) makes it a perfect fit for most wireless
  26. messaging needs.

  29. Shareware Information:
  30.  
  31. PageGate defaults into a 'shareware mode' until it is registered
  32. (purchased). Registration information can be entered into PageGate's
  33. Admin program by choosing the 'Registration' object.  The shareware
  34. version of PageGate only allows for the setup of two users, and will
  35. stop itself every 3-5 days. PageGate's admin program can be used to
  36. restart the paging engine after this time period.

  38. Shareware is based on the try it before you buy it theory. This
  39. software is not free. You may try it. If you like the software and
  40. would like a complete registered version you must contact
  41. sales@notepager.net. The registration fee allows us to continue to
  42. develop quality products, notify you of updates, and provide technical
  43. support. NotePage, Inc. accepts credit cards (Visa, Mastercard &
  44. Discover) checks drawn on US banks and wire transfers. If you have any
  45. questions or concerns regarding registration please contact
  46. products@notepager.net. If you use any of NotePage, Inc.'s software
  47. and do not register after the trial period it is considered software
  48. piracy and it is illegal.

  112. To upgrade from PageGate version 2.x follow these instructions:

  118. 1.  IMPORTANT - If you are currently running a registered version of
  119.         PageGate, be sure to obtain a registration key for version 3.x
  120.         BEFORE continuing.
  121.  
  122. 2.  Uninstall your current version of PageGate by using the
  123.         'Add/Remove Programs' utility in the Windows control panel.
  124.         This will uninstall the program files from version 2.x, but
  125.         will leave your data intact.
  126.  
  127. 3.  Next, use the regular installation instructions found later in
  128.         this section.

  130.  
  131. To upgrade from PageGate version 3.x (to a newer version of 3.x)
  132.  
  133. 1.  Run the 'Uninstall PageGate' program from the PageGate program
  134.         group found in the Windows start menu.
  135.  
  136. 2.  Choose the first option: 'Uninstall Application Files Only'.
  137.         This will uninstall the program files from the previous
  138.         version of PageGate, but leave your data intact.
  139.  
  140. 3.  If you are instructed to use the 'Add/Remove Programs' utility
  141.         from the Windows control panel to complete the uninstallation,
  142.         do this now.
  143.  
  144. 4.  Next, use the regular installation instructions found later in
  145.         this section.

  156. 1.  Insert the PageGate CD-Rom into your computer.
  157.  
  158. 2.  PageGate's setup routine will (on most computers) automatically
  159.         start.  If the setup program starts, go to step 3 below.  If
  160.         not, click on the Windows start button, and then choose 'Run'
  161.         from the menu.  Type in 'd:\setup' without the quotes (in this
  162.         example the CD-Rom drive letter is 'd'. If your CD-Rom drive
  163.         letter is different, use it instead).  Next hit the 'OK'
  164.         button.
  165.  
  166. 3.  You will be presented with the PageGate welcome screen.  Hit 'OK'
  167.         to continue.
  168.  
  169. 4.  The next screen will give you three options as to which part of
  170.         PageGate you want to install.  To install PageGate for the
  171.         first time, you should choose the first option.  After making
  172.         your selection, hit 'OK'.

  174. 5.  On the next screen you can specify where you want PageGate
  175.         installed.  The default install location is
  176.         C:\Program Files\PageGate\. You can change the path by hitting
  177.         the 'Change Directory' button.  To accept the install
  178.         location, click on the button with the computer graphic on it.

  180. 6.  You will now be prompted for the name of a program group to be
  181.         created in the Windows start menu.  Take the default by
  182.         hitting the 'Continue' button.
  183.  
  184. 7.  The setup program will now copy the PageGate program and support
  185.         files to your computer.  This can take a few minutes.  If you
  186.         encounter any problems during this part of the installation,
  187.         please refer to the 'Installation Troubleshooting' section of
  188.         the manual.

  190. 8.  The next screen will tell you that PageGate has been successfully
  191.         installed.  Hit the 'OK' button to continue.

  193. 9.  In many cases, your computer will want to be restarted after the
  194.         installation of PageGate.  If you are prompted to do so, you

  253.         file, you will need a program such as WinZip or PKZip, to
  254.         extract the file.  Extract the contents of the .zip file into
  255.         a temporary directory by using one of these utilities.

  257. 2.  Run the file named setup.exe from the location where you extracted
  258.         PageGate's files.
